Weekend Culture

Australian Lifestyle

Australia comes alive at the weekend and there are heaps of things to do!

After a hard week at work, Australians like to make the most of the weekend. No matter where you live (and there are heaps of urban and rural hubs in Australia), Australia comes alive at the weekend and there are lots of things to do:

  • Sport: AFL, cricket, rugby, netball, basketball, hockey, racing, etc.
  • Beach: swim, snorkel, surf, and sandcastles.
  • Barbecues and social gatherings.
  • Culture: theatre, music, art.
  • Food: cafes, markets, breweries, wineries.
  • Outdoor activities: camping, hiking, sailing, kite surfing, skiing/snowboarding.

You can check out What’s On or The Thousands for up-to-date info on things to do.

Australians also love to get away on the weekend and there are lots of great places to visit in Australia: from the colours of Karajini National Park to the vines of the Barossa Valley, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Keep in mind that Australia is a big place when planning your travels (a flight from Perth to Sydney takes five hours, the same as travelling from London to Moscow!).
